Healing Andhra
Andhra Pradesh is the only state in the India where the children of the entire state are being screened for heart diseases. The state government is providing necessary infrastructure for screening in all the District Government Hospitals. The children requiring treatment are being referred to tertiary care centers for treatment.
Saving A Child’s Heart Foundation along with Apollo Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad has been working for children belonging to A.P. More than 30,000 children have been screened in A.P so far and 2000 children provided treatment.
The Cuddapah Experience:
Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh is the only district in the country where every child with heart disease has been identified during free screening camps and treated. The program was the first in the country where the SACHi team.
- Trained the Health Workers and Anganwadi staff of the district to do primary screening at the village level
- Identified children screened by experts at a district level camp.
- The children needing surgery were prioritized according to the urgency and are being treated (over 400 children operated so far)
- Telemedicine link has been established with the district govt hospital for follow-up care.
SACHi is also working for the district of Karimnagar through the Hrudaya Spandana Scheme initiated by the District Collectorate office. More than 200 children have been operated under this scheme till now.
More work needs to be done at grass root level to build awareness in the masses about the diseases, minimize the risks, treatment and follow up care.
